I'm also using a 7,200RPM WD Caviar Black - it's faster then the average 7,200RPM hard drive in transfer speeds.
Mainly due to use of 32MB cache, dual-processors and some other features by WD.

Some drives are faster then others of the same spindle speed, due to other factors, like aereal density, actuator technology and speed, spin-up speeds, optimisations, onboard processors, etc.

7,200RPM drives are standard, but some are faster then others. Spindle speeds aren't the only deciding factor.

Photoshop starting in 5 seconds only means a fast hard drive, or if you're using CS5 they might've streamlined the initialization procedure.
